Gertrude Jones was one of the earliest members of the National Council of Negro Women - Chicago Central Section. She was a strong supporter of all the Section’s fundraising efforts (Night at the Races, Midnight Bowl, Double Good popcorn and Hat Brunch). Her favorite by far was the Annual Hat Brunch. Each year she purchased a minimum of one table and invited her family and friends to attend the event. Gertrude looked forward to wearing one of her many beautiful hats to come out and enjoy fellowship with the ladies of the Chicago Central Section.

Gertrude Jones was the mother of Tracy Jones and past president Julie Annette Jones and the grandmother of our member Eleni B. Washington. She departed this life and went to her heavenly home on May 8, 2022. Her son, daughter and granddaughter deemed is a fitting tribute to establish the Gertrude Jones Memorial Scholarship with the Chicago Central Section of the National Council of Negro Women.  Not only was she a strong supporter of this organization but she provided generous financial gifts to many students as they celebrated educational milestones.
